Gulf Shores, AL – State officials are taking stock six months after Hurricane Ivan hit the Gulf Coast. Officials in Gulf Shores say some residents are still homeless. They say the oyster population is decimated. And businesses on the shore could lose millions of dollars in revenue, with repairs still underway. State tourism officials say only four hotels or condominium complexes are open to visitors along 30 miles of Alabama coastline between Orange Beach and Fort Morgan. And in Gulf Shores alone, workers have removed more than one million cubic yards of sand from the roads and neighborhoods and, after sifting out the debris, deposited it back onto the beaches.
