Sessions Says He's Not Interested in Governor's Race

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Some state Republicans have been talking about recruiting U-S Senator Jeff Sessions to run for governor in 2006. That would mean he could possibly oppose incumbent Republican Governor Bob Riley. But Sessions says he supports Riley and is not interested in running for governor in two years. Riley's spokesperson Jeff Emerson says the governor "is very pleased" to have Sessions' support. State G-O-P Chairman Marty Connors says there has been a movement within the party to draft Sessions, but Connors says he doesn't know who has been behind the effort.
