PSC Will Look at Natural Gas Rates

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Another kind of gas price is attracting scrutiny from the Public Service Commission. Commission member George Wallace Junior says he would like an investigation into natural gas rates. It comes after the Mobile Register reported natural gas prices in Alabama are much higher than those in surrounding states. Specifically, the report showed Mobile Gas customers pay hundreds of dollars more for the same amount of natural gas than do consumers who live 30 miles away in Mississippi. Rates for other Alabama gas providers were also above the regional average. Wallace says he was unaware the state's natural gas rates were so much higher than those in neighboring states.
