Prosecutor Considers Joining Quarry Issue

By Alabama Public Radio

Wetumpka, AL – Dozens of Elmore County residents may have more help fighting a proposed quarry operation. District Attorney Randall Houston says he's considering joining a nuisance lawsuit against North Montgomery Materials. The company received approval from the state Department of Environmental Management to mine granite near the Titus community. But 46 area residents filed a suit to stop the operation. They say the quarry would harm the environment and reduce property values. Houston says the Department of Environmental Management may not have properly considered the proposed quarry's impact on public safety.
