Owens Continues Testimony in HealthSouth Case

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – Former HealthSouth chief financial officer Bill Owens was on the stand for the eighth day in a row Friday. He has been testifying in the fraud trial of former HealthSouth C-E-O Richard Scrushy. Jurors heard more of secretly-recorded conversations Friday. Owens was already working with the government when he recorded the conversations with Scrushy. On the tape, Scrushy can be heard telling Owens to "go down fighting" about a day before the F-B-I raided the company. Prosecutors say the recordings prove Scrushy was involved in the scandal. But defense attorneys say the tapes prove Scrushy never said anything specific about the fraud.
