More Soldiers Set to Deploy Overseas

By Alabama Public Radio

Troy, AL – Another group of Alabamians will be heading overseas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. About 30 soldiers assigned to the Alabama National Guard's 1670th Transportation Company from Troy and Brantley are now on active duty. Guard spokesman Martin Dyson says the 1670th will be attached to a Wisconsin-based Transportation Company. The Alabama soldiers will serve as mechanics and heavy equipment drivers in that company. Since September 11, 2001, almost 10,000 Alabama Army and Air Guard personnel have served on active duty in the war on terrorism. A brief departure ceremony for the 1670th will be held Thursday afternoon in Troy.
