Montgomery Judge Appointed to Riley Cabinet

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Governor Riley has a new commissioner of Children's Affairs in his Cabinet. Montgomery family court senior Judge Richard Dorrough was appointed to the court in 1984. He won election to three full terms before losing in November. Riley announced the selection Monday. The Governor says while serving on the family court, Dorrough started numerous programs, including a divorce education program as well as Teen Court for minor juvenile offenses. The state bar association's Family Law Section named him Judge of the Year in 1998. Dorrough fills a post that has been open since Riley appointed Page Walley to be commissioner of the Department of Human Resources last January. During the past year, the children's agency has been directed by two acting commissioners.
