Companies Win Permission to Provide Drug Benefits

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama and United Healthcare of Alabama have been approved to provide new prescription drug benefits for state residents on Medicare. State officials say Medicare recipients who do not have Medicaid outpatient drug coverage will be able to enroll for the prescription drug program in early May. The program will begin offering ten to 25 percent discounts on prescription drugs in June. The federal government is paying for the program, and national drug card sponsors also will offer discounts.
