Bill Would Give State Employees Pay Raise

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – A Republican Representative will introduce a bill to give state employees a four percent pay raise if the money is available. Montgomery Representative Jay Love says the proposal could put state employees and teachers at odds because it would put new pressure on lawmakers to use education money to help out the General Fund. The possible pay raise would be contingent on the Legislature approving Governor Riley's plan to transfer some state programs from the General Fund to the education budget. The measure by Love would also give state employees the raise only if the money is available in the General Fund.
