Another Deckhand Drowns in Mobile River

By Alabama Public Radio

Mobile, AL – A deckhand drowned early Thursday morning when he fell off a barge into the Mobile River. Victor McGrew of Choctaw County was employed by Parker Towing Company Incorporated of Tuscaloosa. Charles Haun is the executive vice-president of Parker Towing. He says McGrew was wearing a life jacket when he fell. Haun also says the company and the Coast Guard are investigating the accident. Other officials say the 34-year-old's death was accidental. McGrew's death was the second incident in three weeks where a deckhand drowned after falling into the Mobile River.
