It may have been the first time since the 2009 SEC Championship that Alabama wasn't favored to win a game. But the 38-10 result of a rain-soaked contest in Athens left no doubt that the Crimson Tide was the best team on the field.
Despite the weather, Alabama QB Jake Coker had his best game of the season in terms of quarterback rating. He completed nearly 70% of his passes and gained just shy of 200 yards through the air. RB Derrick Henry had a productive day as well, rushing for nearly 150 yards and adding a touchdown.
Alabama's defense showed up as well, creating three turnovers off interceptions and holding Georgia's QB Greyson Lambert to a dismal 2.0 QBR. The Crimson Tide special teams unit also got on the board with a blocked punt and quick touchdown.
But the Tide defense couldn't keep Georgia's star running back Nick Chubb totally hemmed in. Chubb gave the Bulldogs their only touchdown and tied Herschel Walker's school record of 13 straight 100-yard games.
Alabama's strength of schedule took a hit as both Ole Miss and Wisconsin lost.
Auburn snapped their two-game losing streak Saturday against San Jose State, thanks to an explosive performance from RB Peyton Barber. Barber rushed for just under 150 yards and scored every touchdown in Auburn's 35-21 victory. Jeremy Johnson stayed on the bench for the Tigers, and replacement QB Sean White had a turnover-free 108 yard passing day.
Auburn has a bye next week; they'll head to Kentucky on October 15.
The Crimson Tide will host Arkansas next Saturday. The Razorbacks are coming off a 24-20 win over Tennessee that snapped a three-game losing streak. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPN.
