Alabama Governor Signs Both State Budgets

governor.alabama.gov

Gov. Robert Bentley has signed the state General Fund budget and state education budget into law.

The governor's press secretary, Jennifer Ardis, announced Monday night that Bentley had signed both of the Legislature's spending plans without changes on the last day of the 2013 legislative session.

The Legislature passed the budgets nearly two weeks ago, and Bentley had indicated early on that he had no major problems with them. The budgets are for the fiscal year starting Oct. 1.

The $5.77 billion education plan will spend 3.6 percent more than this year and will provide a 2 percent cost-of-living raise for K-12 employees.

The $1.74 billion General Fund is 0.4 percent larger than the current budget, but does not include a pay increase for state workers.
