Adopted Four-Year-Old Returned to CA

By Alabama Public Radio

Athens, AL – An Athens couple has turned over their adopted daughter to the child's paternal grandmother in California. Brian and Dawn Barlow had adopted Ilene Hill's newborn baby when she contacted them about also adopting her four-year-old daughter, Anna. Hill says the children's father, Jesse Baldizan, beat her and refused to pay child support. So the Barlows agreed to reunite the sisters and adopted both girls. But Anna has now been sent to stay with her grandmother in California, who has won temporary custody. And Hill has since been charged with kidnapping in California. Those charges stemmed from claims that she never cleared the adoption with Baldizan.
