Hamilton, AL – A judge threw out the state's case against Senator Roger Bedford Wednesday. Bedford faced charges of extortion and attempted extortion in a case involving the Marion County Commission. Alabama Public Radio's Pat Sanders spoke with Senator Bedford after the conclusion of the trial.
Hamilton, AL – A judge has thrown out the extortion charges against state Senator Roger Bedford, saying the state failed to prove the powerful Democratic lawmaker had made a threat to commissioners in rural Marion County.
Circuit Judge Jerry White said today he didn't think any crime occurred. White said the prosecution had to show that Bedford threatened the commissioners and had the ability to carry it out.
Tuscaloosa, AL – Tuscaloosa will host Alabama's biggest Christmas parade tonight. It's the 28th year of the West Alabama Christmas Parade. This year's theme is "Winter Wonderland". More than 200 floats, marching bands and other entries are expected to take part. The parade begins at 6:30 at the intersection of Queen City Avenue and University Boulevard. It ends on Greensboro Avenue near 13th Street. The city's official tree lighting ceremony will be held at 5:15.
