APR Funding FAQs
The Dollars and Sense of Alabama Public Radio
You may have questions about how we get funding to produce and air content for our listeners. Alabama Public Radio has historically operated through financial partnerships between our listeners/members, underwriters, The University of Alabama, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).
2025 Changes
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) was a non-profit corporation created by an act of the United States Congress (the Public Broadcasting Financing Act of 1967).
During the summer of 2025, Congress rescinded funding for CPB, effectively ending all federal funding for public media. At APR, CPB funding accounted for only 6% of the annual operating budget. We are aggressively working on replacing those funds through increased fundraising from underwriters and our listeners.
2026 Funding
For the current fiscal year FY2026, The University of Alabama provides office space, staff salaries, and some IT infrastructure to APR. Programming expenses are covered by donations from our members through on-air fund drives, direct mail, underwriting, and estate gifts. Donations can be made at any time via the donate button above. If you are interested in underwriting the station’s programming, contact underwriting@apr.org.
