The Transplant Games

  • An Alabama woman passed a major milestone over the weekend following groundbreaking surgery. Towana Looney is the longest living patient to receive a transplanted organ of a pig. In her case, a kidney. Her doctor in New York City says organ is absolutely normal. The FDA allows pig organ transplantation when patients are out of options.
  • Birmingham will be hosting another sporting event starting next year. The Magic City will be the holding The Transplant Games of America in the summer of 2024. The mission of the event is to honor the legacy of people who donate and to highlight the need for organ transplants.
