President Joe Biden

  • The dust is still setting on the U.S. Supreme Court decision on immunity for Donald Trump. The Justices ruled that the former President has limited immunity for official acts but not for unofficial ones. The High Court is sending the charges against Trump back to the lower court to separate the two types of actions. The Alabama Republican Party says the people now get to speak.
  • President Biden should make as many public appearances as possible following last week’s debate with Donald Trump. That’s the advice of a University of Alabama Assistant Professor who specializes in political communication. APR News spoke with Josh Bramlett during our NPR coverage of last December’s Republican Debate in Tuscaloosa. We interviewed him after last Thursday’s event. Bramlett says Biden should also do a lot of television interviews, both local and national. APR news director Pat Duggins sat down with Bramlett following the debate which aired “live” on APR. CNN says it counted at least 30 lies Donald Trump told during the debate.
  • Montgomery is one of 21 communities across the country receiving funding from the Biden-Harris Administration to create more lower-cost housing options.
  • President Joe Biden and Donald Trump square off for their first debate tonight. The Alabama Republican Party will be watching how the ground rules for the event impact Trump. The microphones will be muted after each candidate has spoken and there will be no audience at the debate. John Wahl is chairman of the Alabama Republican Party. APR News Director Pat Duggins spoke with Wahl on a range of issues surrounding the debate and the election.
  • President Joe Biden and Donald Trump have just a few days to go before their first campaign debate on Thursday. The Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party plans to tune in. APR News spoke with John Wahl shortly after Trump was convicted on thirty-four felony counts in a New York City courtroom. Wahl said the front runner for the Republican nomination will likely focus on the issues during the debate with Joe Biden
  • Alabama U.S. Senators Katie Britt and Tommy Tuberville were at the Capitol Hill Club in Washington, D.C. for a GOP meeting with Donald Trump that drew protesters in the sweltering heat of the nation’s capital. This was Trump’s first visit with lawmakers since the January 6th insurrection.
  • Within minutes of Donald Trump’s conviction on thirty four felony charges, the Alabama Republican Party issued a press release in support of the former President. APR News Director Pat Duggins spoke with Alabama GOP chairman John Wahl about the historic verdict, starting with the statement from the State Republican Party.
  • Gambling legislation and proposed changes to the state ethics law failed to win final approval at the end of Alabama’s lawmaking session in Montgomery. Lawmakers faced a public backlash over IVF access. Clinics paused services following a state court ruling equating frozen embryos to children.
  • Alabama officials approved legislation to ensure President Joe Biden will appear on the state's November ballot, mirroring accommodations the state made four years ago for then-President Donald Trump. The House of Representatives voted 93-0 for the legislation. Republican Governor Kay Ivey signed the bill into law the same day, a spokeswoman said.
  • Students on the University of Alabama campus joined nationwide campus protests over Israel and Gaza. Marchers gathered at the plaza near the university's financial building on the Tuscaloosa campus.
