The inaugural South Star Festival is set for Sept. 28 and Sept. 29 at the John Hunt Park Festival Grounds, where crowds of thousands of people are expected to attend. Gates open both days at 1:00 p.m. and the music will end at 11:00 p.m.

The El Mercado del Pueblo is being announced as a new initiative to serve Latino families in the greater North Alabama area. The market will be held every Saturday through Nov. 9 at the University Pickers parking lot on Triana Blvd SW in Huntsville.

Children and tweens from North Alabama are gaining knowledge on Native American culture and history at the Florence Indian Mound Museum. The institution is hosting the Young Learners Series with lessons and hands-on learning exercises. The focus of the next class, to be held on Sept. 28, will be on Native American Music of the Southwest.
