The Alabama Association of Nonprofits (AAN) is preparing to host the annual Alabama Nonprofit Summit in Montgomery on Feb. 13 and 14. The event this year will focus on advocating for nonprofits and the communities they serve.

One of the last remaining birthing units in southern Alabama will close next month to qualify for federal funding that will save the hospital’s emergency services, but doctors warn the move may cost newborns and pregnant women essential access to obstetric care.

The ACLU of Alabama is one of two Alabama-based organizations receiving funds from MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving challenge this week. Scott awarded the ACLU of Alabama $2 million. The nonprofit based in Mongomery will utilize this gift to support its core priority areas, including Voting Rights, Gender Justice and Criminal Legal Reform.
