Lilly Ledbetter, a former Alabama factory manager whose lawsuit against her employer made her an icon of the equal pay movement and led to landmark wage discrimination legislation, has died at 86. The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act strengthened the rights of workers to sue for pay discrimination.

The ACLU of Alabama is one of two Alabama-based organizations receiving funds from MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving challenge this week. Scott awarded the ACLU of Alabama $2 million.
