The University of Iowa says twenty six athletes across five sports are suspected of wagering on sports. That would be in violation of NCAA rules, and more than one hundred people have been linked to an investigation. Iowa State acknowledged about fifteen of its athletes across three sports also are suspected of violating gambling rules. Last week, Alabama fired baseball coach Brad Bohannon following a report of suspicious bets made at an Ohio casino involving his team.

The NFL has suspended five players for violating the league's gambling policy. Three NFL players were suspended indefinitely Friday for betting on NFL games in the 2022 season. Two other players received six-game suspensions for betting on non-NFL games at a league facility. One was a former star player for Alabama.
