April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and across the nation, there are remembrances for the victims of sexual assault crimes including here in Alabama.

Robotics teams from the Kilby Laboratory School are holding a sponsorship campaign and a fundraiser to assist them in competing in the VEX Robotics World Championship. The teams will be fundraising at the Sam’s Club in Florence on Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14.

The Pope’s Tavern Museum in Florence is hosting a Junior Archaeology Camp this summer, divided into two groups for kids ages 9-12 and 13-18. Applications for the camp open on Monday, April 15.

A team from University of North Alabama is celebrating after competing in the Student Bowl at the Southeast American College of Sports Medicine conference. The team from UNA’s Department of Kinesiology took fifth place in the Southeast chapter.

Three robotics teams from the Kilby Laboratory School will be competing in the VEX Robotics World Championship on April 29 through May 4 in Dallas. The teams are actively preparing for the upcoming contest through fundraising and practice sessions.

For the second year, teams from Kilby Laboratory School’s Robotics Program will compete in the VEX Robotics World Championship competition. This is the largest robotics contest in the world, with sponsors including Amazon, NASA and Tesla. The competition is taking place in Dallas from April 25 through May 3.

Light the Fountain, the annual springtime tradition on the University of North Alabama campus, is set for 6:30 p.m. on March 14. The event will take place at Harrison Fountain and Plaza and is free and open to the public.

A yearly showing of international media is beginning at an Alabama college. The University of North Alabama’s seventh annual French Film Festival starts on Monday, March 4, with a French themed reception.

The University of North Alabama is celebrating the 75th year of an iconic mascot, Leo the Lion. The tradition started in 1949 when Leo was created as a cartoon.

A legendary gospel group from Alabama has once again been celebrated. The Blind Boys of Alabama won another Grammy earlier this week for their 2023 album “Echoes of the South” in the category of Best Roots Gospel Album. Not only was the album recorded in Sheffield, but it was released on Florence record label Single Lock Records.
