Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen is running for lieutenant governor in 2026. The Republican announced his campaign on Tuesday. Allen was elected secretary of state in 2022. After being elected as secretary of state, Allen withdrew Alabama from the Electronic Registration Information Center, citing privacy concerns.

The state of Texas just resigned from a national, bipartisan effort to prevent voter fraud, becoming the largest state and ninth GOP-led state to leave the initiative since 2022.Other states to have recently resigned from the Electronic Registration Information Center include Alabama, Florida, West Virginia, Missouri, Ohio, Iowa and Virginia.
