The Equal Justice Initiative will unveil a new statue honoring Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the Legacy Plaza on Friday, June 14. The statue will be the first full-sized sculpture of Dr. King in Montgomery.

On Friday, February 23, the Civil Rights Memorial Center (CRMC), a project of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and the Alabama State Office will host Selma the Musical: The Untold Stories at the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre for one night only.

The Montgomery Martin Luther King Committee will celebrate Martin Luther King Day by holding a parade in downtown Montgomery today. The 10th Annual MLK Classic Step Show will take place in Dothan tonight from 5 to 9. It features steppers from various college fraternities and sororities, and local youth groups.

Alabama will mark the 60th anniversary of the 1963 bombing at 16th Street Baptist Church that killed four girls. Lisa McNair, the sister of one of the victims, said that as the anniversary is remembered, she hoped people will think about what they can do to combat hate. McNair is worried about a current political climate where she said where politicians seem to purposely stoke division. As an adult, McNair met and forged an unlikely friendship with one of the suspect's daughters.
