Alabama lawmakers advanced legislation that would allow child rapists to be sentenced to death. The U.S. Supreme Court in 2008 ruled that the death penalty is not an allowable punishment for child rape or sexual assault. Republican Rep. Matt Simpson said the goal is to get the court to revisit that decision. Florida and Tennessee passed nearly identical bills in the last two years.
