Halloween is coming early this year for Birmingham residents with the Birmingham Zoo’s Annual Hoots and Howls daytime Halloween event.

The Birmingham Zoo is inviting guest to trick-or-treat around the zoo at the Hoots & Howls daytime Halloween festival. This event will be October 22-23 and 29-30 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Birmingham Zoo has submitted a request to relocate an estimated dozen graves to make way for a new cougar exhibit. The zoo is waiting on a permit from the City of Birmingham to begin the process. If approved, an archeologist from The University of Alabama will come to start the excavation.

About a dozen unmarked graves from an old cemetery that partly overlaps the grounds of the Birmingham Zoo will be relocated to make way for a new cougar exhibit under a proposal submitted by the zoo. Zoo officials have applied for a permit from the Alabama Historical Commission.
