A federal judge is hearing competing testimony over a request to block the nation's fourth execution using nitrogen gas. Demetrius Terrence Frazier is scheduled to be executed Feb. 6 in Alabama for a woman's 1991 rape and murder in Birmingham.

Alabama has scheduled its fourth execution by nitrogen gas. Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey on Tuesday set a Feb. 6 execution date for Demetrius Frazier. Her office said the execution will be carried out by nitrogen gas. Frazier was convicted of killing Pauline Brown while burglarizing her Birmingham apartment in 1991.

A judge on Wednesday refused to stop the nation’s third scheduled execution by nitrogen gas that is planned in Alabama for later this month. U.S. District Judge R. Austin Huffaker Jr. denied a request to block Alabama from executing Carey Dale Grayson on Nov. 21 using the same nitrogen gas protocol.

An Alabama inmate on death row, whose death sentence led to discussions about the Constitutional right of religious freedom, will be executed on Thursday, July 18 by lethal injection. Keith Gavin is Muslim. He’s sentenced to death for the 1998 murder of a delivery driver.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, is urging Alabama authorities to accept a request from a Muslim inmate that no autopsy be performed on his body after execution, in accordance with his religious beliefs.

Alabama has set a July 18 execution date for a man convicted in the 1998 shooting death of a delivery driver who had stopped at an ATM. The state's governor announced the lethal injection date Thursday for 64-year-old Keith Edmund Gavin.
