The U.S. Department of Agriculture suspended the 1890 Scholars Program, which provided recipients with full tuition and fees for students studying agriculture, food or natural resource sciences at one of 19 universities.

Atlanta police are treating the death of a former head basketball coach at two Georgia universities as a homicide after his body was found in the city shortly after his family reported him missing. News outlets report Sammy Jackson was the former men’s coach at Fort Valley State University and Savannah State University and also had ties to Alabama.

Alabama A&M has fired football coach Connell Maynor after seven seasons. Athletic director Paul A. Bryant announced the decision with a brief statement on Monday. The Bulldogs went 6-6 this season, including a 4-4 Southwestern Athletic Conference mark, and won three straight games before a season-ending loss to Florida A&M.

Florida A&M University has postponed its upcoming college football game against Alabama A&M because of Tropical Storm Helene. The Rattlers rescheduled the game for Friday, Nov. 29, in anticipation of Helene strengthening into a major hurricane Wednesday while moving north toward the United States.

A shooting outside a residence hall at an Alabama college campus that stemmed from a fight has left two people injured, police said. The incident occurred at Alabama A&M University, Huntsville Police Department spokesperson Sydney Martin wrote in an email. Investigators said the shooting was an isolated occurrence, Martin said.
