en.wikipedia.org

State and local officials say they're concerned with the number of rabies cases that have been reported in Shelby County.

WBRC-TV reported Thursday that (http://bit.ly/1bPSRL4 ) 21 rabies cases have been reported in the county since January.

Alabama USDA Director Frank Boyd says health and wildlife officials are trapping raccoons in the area to test them for rabies, and to try finding out whether the cases are confined to any specific area.

Officials say some cases have been reported in family pets despite vaccinations being a state requirement.
