Prosecutors in the perjury trial of Republican Rep. Barry Moore played tape recordings of Moore and his primary opponent discussing if state funds would be in jeopardy if he ran against Moore.
On one tape Tuesday, former primary candidate Josh Pipkin asked Moore if the Enterprise area would lose state money for a jobs projects if he stayed in the race.
Moore replied that House Speaker Mike Hubbard was furious about Pipkin's candidacy and had promised to bring "holy hell" down on Pipkin. Moore later says he will tell Hubbard that Pipkin will withdraw if the project goes through.
Prosecutors accuse Moore of lying to a grand jury about the conversations. Defense lawyer Bill Baxley says Pipkin was asking loaded questions of Moore.
Moore's trial is in its second day.
