The co-founder and former president of the Alabama Policy Institute, Gary Palmer of Birmingham, has decided to go from advising politicians to being a politician.
The co-founder and former president of the Alabama Policy Institute, Gary Palmer of Birmingham, has decided to go from advising politicians to being a politician.
Palmer announced Thursday that he will run for the Republican nomination in the 6th Congressional District. It's his first race for public office.
The Alabama Policy Institute is a conservative think tank that works on public policy issues. Palmer says he decided to run because he believes he can provide the leadership and solutions needed in Washington.
He will face orthopedic surgeon Chad Morris of Indian Springs in the primary June 3. Others may also join the race before the deadline in April.
The incumbent, Spencer Bachus of Birmingham, is not seeking re-election.
