Mobile County election coordinator Kim Tillman says voter turnout has been light across the county, but there has been a better turnout in Bayou La Batre, where there is a runoff for mayor on the ballot. Baldwin County Probate Judge Tim Russell told WALA-TV that the turnout Tuesday should total around 15 to 18 percent.
Nine Republicans and two Democrats are seeking their parties' nominations for the 1st Congressional District. Polls close at 7 p.m.
The congressional seat became vacant last month when Republican Jo Bonner resigned to work for the University of Alabama System.
