The Alabama state Capitol will play host to a ceremony to commemorate national Prisoner of War and Missing in Action recognition day.
State officials say Alabama's POW/MIA recognition day is set for Sept. 21 and will include remarks by Korean War veteran Newton Duke, of Alabaster. Officials say Duke and 29 others became prisoners of war May 18, 1951 and were held behind enemy lines until Aug. 13, 1953.
Aside from the ceremony on the south lawn of the State Capitol, organizers say the event will include a book signing and other salutes and exhibits.
