Federal prosecutors say casino developer Ronnie Gilley's plea agreement prevents him from asking a judge to lower his prison sentence.
Federal prosecutors have filed their response to Gilley's recent request seeking a reduction in his sentence. Prosecutors say Gilley waived his right to appeal his sentence when he signed his plea agreement. U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson has given Gilley until Sept. 17 to respond.
The Dothan Eagle (http://bit.ly/17oVUnb ) reports Gilley has also claimed ineffective legal representation. His attorney at the time, David Harrison of Geneva, has filed court papers saying he acted property in his representation of Gilley.
Gilley developed Country Crossing in Dothan. He is serving six years and eight months in a federal prison in Atlanta for offering bribes to legislators to support pro-gambling legislation.
