Troopers Issue 14 Tickets for Texting, Driving

State officials say Alabama state troopers have issued 14 citations under the new state law banning texting and driving.

The law went into effect on Aug. 1.

Alabama Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Robyn Bradley Litchfield tells The Birmingham News (http://bit.ly/PaDY64) that she knows of at least two more citations issued by local law enforcement agencies. That number may increase as other agencies report their totals.

In one of the cases, a state trooper notes in his ticket that a Birmingham man was weaving across lanes on Interstate 459 North in Hoover as he texted behind the wheel.

In another case, a trooper wrote that a Hoover woman texted with both hands on her phone and steered her car with her wrist as she drove along I-59 North in Birmingham.
