The Cullman Strawberry Festival has reportedly provided strawberry-themed fun for the community since the 1930’s when it began as the Cullman Strawberry Jubilee. In 2023, Governor Ivey honored Cullman’s strawberry festival by electing it the official Alabama Strawberry Festival.

Hurricane Preparedness Week takes place May 5-11 in an effort to inform and equip people in the Southeast to be better prepared for the threat of a hurricane.

Alabamians are remembering the devasting tornado outbreak that destroyed communities across the state on April 27, 2011. According to the National Weather Service, the super-outbreak affected 26 states across the Southeast, but Alabama saw the worst destruction.

Athletes of all ages and abilities can register for the 41st Alabama State Games, happening June 7-9 across Birmingham and Jefferson County. The Alabama Sports Festival (ASF) Foundation is a non-profit that hosts the State Games.

April is considered the most active spring month for tornadoes in Alabama. The National Weather Service (NWS) says the State’s primary tornado season is early March to May, with the largest number of tornadoes occurring in the month of April.

Registration for teens and kids summer camps in Mobile, as well as after-camp care, is opening on Monday, April 1. The camps are put on through the Mobile Parks and Recreation Department.

The Sakura Festival has been celebrating Japanese culture in Tuscaloosa for thirty eight years. This year, the event will take place Saturday, March 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Warner Transportation Museum located downtown on Jack Warner Parkway. Each year, people come together to celebrate bringing together two different cultures.

Alabama is part of the Southern states seeing a boost in population numbers. The South accounted for 87% of the nation’s growth in 2023. That’s according to recent figures from the U.S. Census Bureau, which also shows the South is the only region to have maintained population growth throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
