Kamala Harris to mark 'Bloody Sunday' anniversary in Selma

APR's Pat Duggins

Vice President Kamala Harris is coming to Alabama this weekend to commemorate the anniversary of "Bloody Sunday" in Selma.

Harris will speak and participate in the symbolic march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge.

The event marks the 57th anniversary of the day in 1965 when white police attacked Black voting rights marchers. Reactions to the beatings encouraged support for the passage of the Voting Rights Act later that year.
