Alabama’s largest anime convention is happening on Feb. 11-13 at the BJCC in Birmingham.

Kami-Con offers unique experiences for gaming, meet and greets, and fun events for all ages. Some anticipating the event hope the three-day weekend will provide a chance to meet featured guests and make new friends.

Raymond Lenzner is the president and founder of Kami-Con. He said the event gives people a chance to make new friends and gain a sense of companionship.

“We've got people who meet lifelong friends at our show, meet their future romantic partners at our show, and it's just very, very sweet to see the community grow,” Lenzner said.

Last year’s weekend was cancelled due to COVID-19, but this year’s event hopes to give visitors the same great experience.

Lenzner said his team is making sure guests stay safe by showing proof of vaccination or a negative test result.

“You need to have a negative Covid test to be able to come into the convention or you can also get in with a vaccine card,” Lenzner said. “We will be accepting those. At home tests are okay but we are trying to make sure that it's a relatively safe environment for a convention as we can.”

Lenzner also said attendees will be required to wear masks inside the convention space.
