A longtime former Alabama senator is looking to fill his seat once again.
Hank Sanders of Selma announced on Tuesday that his daughter Malika Sanders Fortier, who currently holds his former seat, will not be running for office again.
Sanders said he wants to get back to Montgomery to expand the state's Medicaid program to provide health care coverage to more people. He served as state senator for almost 40 years after first being elected in 1983.
Sanders filed qualifying paperwork with the Alabama Democratic Party.
