Alabama's newly proposed congressional districts have been blocked by federal judges.
A three-judge panel wrote that the state should have two congressional districts where Black voters are a sizeable portion of the electorate instead of the proposed one district. The panel issued a preliminary injunction on Monday, blocking the use of the proposed map and stayed the deadline from Friday until Feb. 11 to allow the Legislature to enact a remedial plan.
A spokesperson for Attorney General Steve Marshall said in an email, "The Attorney General's Office strongly disagrees with the court's decision and will be appealing in the coming days."
