Two different Alabama prisons reported inmate deaths this past week.

The Alabama Department of Corrections reported that 34-year-old Travis Hutchins died Thursday from injuries suffered in an inmate-on-inmate assault at Bibb Correctional Facility. Four days later, an inmate at William Donaldson Correctional Facility died following an assault that took place in the prison’s common area.

The name of the man has not yet been released and his death is being investigated as a homicide. Hutchins was serving a 20-year sentence for murder and the unnamed victim was serving a 25-year sentence for a burglary conviction.

The Department of Justice states that at least 16 men were killed by other inmates in the fiscal year 2020.
