Hoover mass vaccination site closes amid dwindling demand

One of the largest COVID-19 vaccination sites in the state is closing due to decreasing demand.

UAB's drive-up clinic at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium was able to give up to 2,400 vaccines a day when it first opened in February but no longer sees as much traffic.

Health officials say vaccine hesitancy is a problem even as only about 25 percent of the state's population is fully vaccinated.

There are still three public vaccination sites run by UAB in metro Birmingham, and the hospital plans to operate smaller, short-term clinics.
