A longtime senator from Alabama has indicated he may not run for reelection next year.
Republican Sen. Richard Shelby has expressed the intent to confidantes, who shared with the Associated Press anonymously.
Some fellow GOP lawmakers want Shelby to reconsider.
Shelby's spokesperson Blair Taylor said the senator has not announced a decision about the 2022 election but will in the coming weeks.
