A new strain of COVID-19 has been detected in Alabama that is more transmissible than the original virus.

The Alabama Department of Public Health said the variant originally from the United Kingdom was identified in two children and one adult. The strain has also been recorded in 24 other states.

Experts said the new variant is more contagious, but not necessarily more harmful.
