Alabama Rep. Robert Aderholt will miss votes in Washington this week after being exposed to COVID-19.
In a statement, Aderholt said he was in close contact for several hours with someone who later tested positive for the virus and that he plans to quarantine in Alabama.
He tested negative and has not shown any symptoms, but said he wanted to be careful to not expose the virus to anyone.
"I will have to miss votes this week, but the safety of my staff and colleagues is far more important," Aderholt said in his statement.
He expressed hope that relief from the virus would come soon.
"I'm confident that a vaccine will begin to be distributed soon, that Congress can agree on a new COID-19 relief package, and we can move beyond this trying and unsettling time in our history," he said.
