Alabama Senate President Pro Tem Marsh won't seek reelection

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Longtime Alabama Senate President Pro Tempore Del Marsh says he will not seek reelection in 2022.

Marsh told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Friday that he was ready to move on after more than two decades in Montgomery.

The Anniston Republican is in his sixth term in the Alabama Senate. He has three times been elected as president pro tempore, the most powerful position in the Senate. Marsh said he is most proud of his work on school choice.

Marsh said he and Senate Republicans will discuss whether he will remain in his leadership position or step down.
