West Alabama Works launched a database to help working parents find child care during COVID-19.
Some West Alabama school districts moved to remote learning for the first nine weeks of school, leaving many parents scrambling for day care services and assistance.
The West Alabama Childcare Database gives a list of child care facilities offering various programs based on the student’s age and if the student is expected to stay for a full or half day.
The programs offered on the database are intended to help parents continue working while keeping their children on track in their courses.
West Alabama Works and Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama Communications and Marketing Coordinator Tara Bullocks said they saw a need and wanted to help.
“We reached out to different child care providers,” Bullocks said. “Created a form for child care providers to fill out and then created the database. Anyone can use it, of course, but it’s especially for employers who need the resources for their employees to say, ‘here’s places you can send your kids during the day that are safe and that they can help them with their school work.’ ”
The database offers opportunities that will help West Alabama’s industries and businesses keep their workers, while giving students the resources that they need to thrive in their courses.
