MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — The number of COVID-19 patients in Alabama hospitals climbed to more than 800 Thursday, the highest number since the pandemic began.
Alabama on Thursday reported an additional 1,200 cases. Dr. Don Williamson said there were 840 COVID-19 patients in state hospitals Thursday, the highest number since the outbreak. State Health Officer Scott Harris said the numbers are very concerning.
Williamson said the state is experiencing a dramatic upswing in cases and hospitalizations. Health officials expressed concern that July 4 gatherings cause another upward swing in infections.
