Alabama’s annual back-to-school tax- free weekend is slated to begin at midnight. The savings will run until midnight on Sunday. Although the state’s 4 percent sales tax is waived, local tax may still be included in certain areas.
The tax exemption is focused around back to school items, but everyone can partake.
Melissa Warnke is the communication manager for the Alabama Retail Association. She advises families to plan for the tax-free weekend.
“The average family, when they get their children ready to get back to school, they spend upwards of 6, sometimes 700 dollars. If you were to plan ahead and prepare, know what you need to be purchasing, the back to school sales tax holiday weekend is a great time to do that and save a lot of money,” she said.
It was the Alabama state government that created the tax-free weekend in order to stimulate the local economy and help families get everything needed for school.
The Alabama Retail Association is using the slogan “Stache supplies during the sales tax holiday” to encourage families to take advantage of this weekend.
