Ivey Leads Fundraising Among Gubernatorial Candidates

Kay Ivey

Alabama’s incumbent governor Kay Ivey is rounding the corner toward the June primary elections with a commanding fundraising lead.

According to fundraising reports filed earlier this week, Ivey has raised a total of $3.6 million. She became governor last year after her predecessor Robert Bentley resigned amid a scandal and impeachment calls.

While Ivey has started spending on TV ads, she still has $1.7 million in hand going into the peak of campaign season.

Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle is her closest competitor in the fundraising battle, with nearly $2.1 million raised. State Senator Bill Hightower has raised just shy of a million dollars ($966,353), while evangelist Scott Dawson has raised just over 800,000 dollars ($803,308).

On the Democratic side, Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox holds a modest lead in fundraising with $691,440 raised. Former Alabama Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb has raised just over $617,904, and former state legislator James Fields reported raising about $18,768.
